Take Back Programs & Product Match-Making

Kids shaking hands with clouds in background

Copernicus Educational Products wants to become a more responsible company and part of that is considering what happens to our products at the end of their use. A key component of our Take Back Program is working with our dealer network to help rehome products that are still viable. This helps mitigate costs to schools, reduces landfill waste, and gives recipient schools items they need.

Challenges with take-back programs:

  • As schools refresh furniture and equipment, rehoming used items can be time consuming.
  • Not all school districts have internal apps to make rehoming equipment easy.
  • Shipping is also a challenge; many schools do not have the materials suitable for packaging a product on a pallet or have a tow motor to move it, and shipping can be cost-prohibitive.

Solution: A match-making take-back program

Copernicus was contacted by a school that no longer needed two iRover2 carts for Flat Panels; they decided to mount them to the wall instead.

Our Sales Director worked with the dealer that originally sold the iRover2s to the school and asked if they knew of nearby schools that could use them. The dealer was able to quickly reach out to their network of schools and had several interested in the carts. They decided on a school that was close by and connected the two school’s tech departments who worked together to arrange shipment. Now the iRover2s are being used in their new home.

Business and Environmental Benefits:

  1. Dealers can add take-back match-making as part of their full range of services
  2. Unwanted units in good condition can be used as demo units and enable new technology pilots
  3. No disposal fees and less waste going to landfill
  4. Lower transportation costs and emissions when it’s between local schools
  5. Feels good to help schools that do not have the budget or opportunity to access tech equipment

It’s important that they know take-back programs are in demand AND they may have conversion kits or other ways to repurpose their product, like the iRover2 Conversion Kit that turns a cart into a Height Adjustable Wall Mount (information below).

More Cost-Effective

For schools it’s often more cost-effective to use a moving company; they have better pricing than a regular courier, and no shipping pallets or shrink wrap is needed.

Another school can try something new!

Older technology doesn’t necessarily mean it’s outdated. Older tech from one school may give another school an opportunity to try hardware they’ve never used before.

Thinking of putting your flat panel on the wall instead of your iRover2 cart?

Consider one of our iRover2 Conversion Kits for Height Adjustable Wall Mounts. It builds on your initial investment of the cart, saving you money compared to a new wall mount installation, plus it keeps parts in use and out of the landfill for longer.
